Harkin Lloyd solicitors, one of the leading industrial disease
firms in the North West were delighted to show their support to
the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
The
firm sponsored a breakfast meeting at the foundation offices in
Liverpool on the 27 July 2006. The event which was to raise
awareness about lung cancer and to introduce the Women Against
Lung Cancer campaign that will be launched in September of this
year was attended by fifty women. Special guest Cherie Booth QC
took time out of her busy schedule to attend the event.
Harkin Lloyd were proud to sponsor the event. The firm is
familiar with lung cancer and the devastating effect it has upon
sufferers and their family members. As industrial disease
specialists, the firm often deals with Mesothelioma and lung
cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
Partner Jean Harkin added “We had a case recently whereby a
smoker developed lung cancer and unfortunately died. The client
had been exposed to asbestos many years previously and we
successfully argued that the subsequent cancer had been caused
by the asbestos exposure despite the client being a heavy
smoker. This is an important case and means that clients who
develop this terrible disease can seek the compensation they
rightly deserve. Smoking is not a bar to helping these people
sue for previous asbestos exposure.” Harkin Lloyd have confirmed
they are committed to the Women Against Lung Cancer appeal which
will formally be launched on 26th September 2006.
