One of the North West’s
leading law firms, Harkin Lloyd Solicitors, are a forward
thinking firm that since its formation, has seen rapid growth.
After working for Norman Jones Personal Injury Solicitors in
Hamilton Square, Jean Harkin set up her own practice in October
last year. Based in India Buildings in the heart of Liverpool,
Jean specialises in asbestos disease work. Asbestos related
diseases are predicted to rise to about 10,000 deaths a year in
Britain. There is usually a long delay between first exposure to
asbestos and the onset of asbestos related diseases. This can be
up to 40 years after first exposure. Jean is also Treasurer of
the Association of Women Solicitors, an official group of the Law
Society. Having always had an interest in medical ethics, Jean
is looking forward to taking the Chair of the Liverpool
Paediatric Research Ethics Committee later this year, a public
appointment for 10 years. Jean’s partner is Rachel Lloyd, who
specialises in personal injury cases and civil litigation. The
firm are currently involved in the Pleural Plaques High Court
Test Case which could end claims by people with pleural plaques.
